When I survey the current political and spiritual landscape of America, I’m so disturbed by the unfolding scenario that I am at a loss for words. The daily headlines are nothing short of terrifying. It is difficult to overstate the dire situation we are facing as a nation. If not for the incredible, long-suffering grace and mercy of our God, our once great republic would already have been destroyed – overtaken by our foreign and domestic enemies who’ve been seeking our demise for decades. Through His remnant people, the Lord has held back the tide enough that we fortunately still have the freedom to speak and take a stand. But, how much longer will He wait for the citizens of our nation to repent and turn back to Him?
We should learn a lesson from ancient Israel. God, in His mercy, sent a stream of prophets to warn His people of coming judgment if they did not repent of their idol worship and rampant wickedness. After many years of ignoring God’s warnings and calls to repentance, they were taken captive by their enemies – first the northern kingdom of Israel, conquered by the Assyrians in 721 BC; then the southern kingdom of Judah, taken captive in 586 BC. In both cases, God allowed ample time for His people to repent of their sins and godless behavior. When they repeatedly refused to submit in obedience to Him, His judgment finally came.
No amount of resistance or military effort was sufficient to overcome the invaders. The Abrahamic tribes were overrun and soundly defeated by their greatest adversaries, because God had determined the time and manner of His judgment against them. He could tolerate their sin no more. Because of their disobedience and rebellion, He chose to lift His protective covering and permitted the demonic world powers of the day to conquer His own people.
America’s Moral Descent
Like the ancient Israelites, the people of America as a whole have turned their backs on God. The Judeo-Christian principles that served as the foundation stones upon which our republic was built have been firmly rejected. As a result, our society has been turned upside down. What was once right is now wrong; and those views and acts that were once considered to be wrong are now seen as desirable virtues. It’s as if common sense and godly discernment have been thrown to the wind. Consider some of our modern humanistic “achievements”:
● The murder of over 60 million babies, and the prospect of many more to come, as even those not successfully “aborted” in the womb can now legally be exterminated after birth in some states. Consider this startling fact which further illustrates the perversion of right and wrong: An American can be imprisoned for several years for destroying the egg of an unborn eagle, but the “right” of taking an innocent human life is protected under the law. That’s insane!
● The widespread acceptance of homosexuality and same-sex marriage which violate and overturn God’s created order, causing a society to crumble – while the ordained family structure built upon the union of one man with one woman disintegrates. America has been forcing these new norms of conduct upon other countries as well, threatening to cut off funding to those nations who do not permit abortions and same-sex marriage. This practice gained momentum under the Obama administration but has thankfully been curtailed under President Trump.
● The production of thousands of pornographic films, and making them easily accessible worldwide through the Internet; not to mention all the other filthy movies – created by depraved, sometimes demon-possessed individuals – which are eagerly consumed by the decadent masses.
● The state-by-state legalization of mind-altering drugs such as marijuana which throw open the gateway to demonic influence. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) have had their hands full going after drunk drivers who’ve killed their children. Now they have to contend with disabled drivers who are wacked out on drugs – legally.
These are just a few examples of the wickedness now prevalent in our rapidly deteriorating society. It’s as if people have completely lost their minds. This is what happens when the Creator and His mandates are rejected. It results in utter lawlessness.
The political Left is fanatically pushing immoral values and practices that are contributing to the desecration of our country. But they’ve been able to do so with help from many undiscerning, naïve Christians who’ve sent their children to universities that promote the leftist, godless worldview. (This includes a majority of today’s “Christian” colleges, which have succumbed to the socialist worldview and have become a big part of the problem.) Approximately two-thirds of college educated Millennials have embraced this leftist, anti-Christian worldview, while the more conservative generations – WWII era and baby boomers (those over the age of 55) – are dying off. The end result: The leftist, socialist movement in America is gaining ground at about 1 to 1½ percent per year. At the current rate, barring a miracle, they will be the majority in a few short years and will be able to determine the outcome of elections.
One reason the Deep State has been so bold and daring of late is because they believe that time is on their side. If they can stall President Trump and out-maneuver his conservative political base a little while longer, they believe that victory is certain; they will have a smooth path to their socialist one-world order.
Will Justice Prevail?
The next few months are critical from a political standpoint. Despite the “no collusion” findings of the Mueller report, I believe tensions between the Left and Right will continue to mount. Liberal Democrats will keep going after the President, launching further probes and inquiries while hoping that the Southern District of New York finds some dirt on the Trump family. Meanwhile, Conservatives in Congress have more and more evidence that the leaders of our intelligence community conspired with the Clinton machine to defeat Donald Trump, and if all else failed, to force him out of office if elected. If conservative investigators and the new US Attorney General decide to launch a serious probe that could result in prosecutions and jail time for many “heroes” on the Left, it is my opinion they will not go down without a fight.
In their thinking, they still control over 85 percent of the media. And, even though President Trump has appointed some solid cabinet-level department heads who are loyal to him and would defend our Constitutional Republic, most of the individuals still working in those departments are loyal to the emerging socialist order. Their power and influence run deep (hence, the term Deep State). In other words, just because the head of the Justice Department is dedicated to defending our republic doesn’t mean that the five or six people immediately under him hold his same patriotic views; and they may be the ones who still control the chain of command influencing the enormous bureaucracy beneath them. The same can be said of the other cabinet-level departments (State, Defense, Treasury, Energy, etc.). It would take at least another decade of concerted effort to truly “drain the swamp.”
Robert Mueller: Was his investigation just the beginning?
Given this reality, if the former heads of the CIA, FBI and Justice Department, along with their cohorts – and possibly the Clintons – could be facing jail time for their criminal conduct, how far might their deep state allies be willing to go to stop the procedures against them and to knock President Trump out of power? Considering the extent of their evil conduct thus far, I wouldn’t rule out any possibilities. Socialists love a “good crisis” – especially when their backs are to the wall.
Creating Chaos
These evil forces are hoping for an economic collapse that will throw our country, and world, into political and financial chaos. The leftist media is already doing their best to facilitate such a crisis by constantly beating the drum of an imminent trade war with China. However, despite their efforts to present our economy in a negative light, the numbers on unemployment, GDP growth, and new business start-ups continue to be good. President Trump has made some solid decisions – especially in the area of de-regulation – which have helped small businesses. So, for now, the economy remains strong; a fact that the Left detests.
They would like nothing more than to pull the economic rug out from under Trump’s feet, because they realize this would weaken him politically. Along with possibly creating a global crisis that could usher in their one-world cashless system, “Trump’s economic failure” would also set the stage for a leftist backlash in the next US election, which they believe would sweep Socialists permanently into power. Thus far they have failed to bring the President down, but this doesn’t mean they won’t keep trying.
Another area of potential manipulation is border security. If socialist forces from abroad and within the US intensify their efforts to organize and fund thousands of illegal immigrants to flood our border, the situation could quickly escalate into an unparalleled crisis. President Trump has already declared a national emergency in order to secure the necessary resources to prevent the swarms of illegals from coming in. I believe he is doing the right thing by defending our borders and protecting our sovereignty as a nation. But, a word of caution here.
If this leftist-generated crisis were to become so severe that the President feels he has to go the next step by declaring martial law, then all bets are off. In the event of national martial law, a quasi-secret emergency operation would be set in motion, with the ultimate power to be held by the cabinet-level positions inside the Executive Office of the President. This arrangement would be based on Executive Orders and Presidential Directives already put in place by previous administrations. While President Trump and his inner circle might believe they would be calling the shots during such a scenario, the fact is the Deep State – which has overseen and developed this emergency management network (bureaucracy) since its inception during the Carter years – could actually end up in control. As mentioned earlier, the Deep State runs deep and still dominates the enormous bureaucracies that form the downline of the President’s cabinet. Given these facts, could it be that the Left – contrary to their public statements – is actually trying to force the President’s hand on this matter?
All I know is that if martial law is declared, the outcome would be far from certain. I base this view in part on my personal experience within the emergency management structure. From 1985 to 1992 I served in one of the organizations playing a significant role in this network. And, during the last three years I had secret clearance. This was during the George H.W. Bush era. The individuals who briefed us were consistently from a pro-UN, globalist bent.
During one session I attended at Ft. McNair in Washington DC, we were briefed by two “experts.” One was from the Rockefeller Foundation and the other was a popular member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Our luncheon speaker that day was a prominent globalist by the name of Leo Cherne. It took a few minutes to introduce him, as the moderator worked through the long list of awards Cherne had received from the UN and other globalist organizations. His claim to fame included the fact that he had served in every administration since FDR, regardless of whether Democrat or Republican.
The leading figures within this emergency network, I discovered, were staunch globalists and were therefore enthralled with H.W., who was also a globalist. While President, he signed a myriad of Executive Orders, giving them virtually everything they wanted. During one of our meetings, the leaders celebrated this fact.
George H.W. Bush was committed to a New World Order.
In short, our country’s emergency management network was carefully put in place over many years by individuals who were predominantly globalists with strong socialist leanings, and who installed a downline that they believed would hold their same views. The real question therefore becomes, has Donald Trump been in office long enough to root out a majority of the dedicated globalists existing within this network? I seriously doubt it. For this reason, the President should avoid a martial law situation at all costs – because it could be a trap.
[The so-called “purge” of Homeland Security that the President set in motion last week was long overdue and is a positive development in my view. However, he still has a LONG way to go in order to rid the emergency management structure of deep state players. He must continue to exercise extreme caution with every move he makes.]
There are other crises that Socialists would love to force on this President. He truly faces monumental challenges and desperately needs our prayers while he does his best to keep us a free, sovereign nation. Regardless of what you may think about his personality and sometimes uncouth remarks, he has been consistent in defending and trying to shore up our Constitutional Republic. We must give credit where credit is due.
Our Spiritual State
Political upheaval is only the superficial threat facing our nation. The real root of our problems is spiritual. Our religious convictions determine our worldview and ultimately our politics. What goes on in the political realm is to a large extent the outward manifestation of what is taking place spiritually within a nation. Therefore, for a true change (of the good kind) to take place in America, there must be a genuine “sackcloth and ashes” repentance and turn back to God. Such a move must begin within the church.
Michael Boldea, a Christian friend of mine who emigrated to the United States from Romania with his family in the 1980s, recently wrote:
Judgment is coming and deservedly so. Anyone who is halfway honest knows this to be a true and undeniable statement. Since God won’t judge the devil’s kids for something His own kids are doing, judgment always begins with His own first, because He is just.
Although the difference between being chastened and judged is worthy of a protracted thesis all its own, let’s just say that one is used as a corrective measure, while one is used as punishment, or the carrying out of a sentence.
What is about to befall the Western church is not chastening. What is about to befall the Western church is judgment. It is a judgment reserved for the rebellious and unrepentant, for those who have long been worshipping a god of their own making and design.
I concur. The church, as a whole, has become so much like the world that in many congregations one can barely notice a difference. So many American pastors have catered to political correctness – fearful that they might lose their 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt status or possibly their congregations who’ve become increasingly liberal – that it has produced a lack of moral clarity among their flocks. They’re presenting a watered-down gospel message, if they are preaching the Gospel at all.
Is your church shying away from the truth?
As a result, most professing Christians no longer fall under conviction to repent and walk in close fellowship with God. Their hearts have become hardened to the truth, which they have chosen to reinterpret in a way that caters to their own selfish desires. The Bible prophesied that such times would come in the last days before Christ’s return. Consider Paul’s words of warning to us:
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. – 2 Timothy 4:3-4
The fact is, no matter what we want to believe or what forbidden fantasy we may want to pursue, God’s truth still stands. For example, even if the church has become permissive towards homosexuality, it is still a sin; and yes, though the culture has changed, the Bible does not. The same can be said of adultery, fornication, slander, greed, drunkenness, etc.
The sad reality is that most of America’s Christians have ceased to be the salt and light that Jesus called us to be (Matt. 5:13-16). This being the case, we cannot expect the world to follow our lead when we are not worthy of being followed. If the example we set is hypocritical, we cannot expect others to accept the teachings of Christ that we present. The world, I believe, would rather hate a righteous man of integrity who they inwardly respect, than be preached at by alleged Christians who are as immoral as they are. Such Christians are reprehensible to the world and a stench to God.
In Revelation, chapters 2 and 3, the Lord rebuked five of the seven churches in Asia-Minor. His two most severe charges were leveled against the churches in Sardis and Laodicea. Here’s what He said to the church in Sardis, as recorded by John the Apostle:
I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you… – Rev. 3:1-3
To the church in Laodicea, Jesus said:
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.” But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. – Rev. 3:15-17
I believe these sobering words of Jesus also describe today’s church in America. His statements should serve as a reality check to all of us claiming to be His followers.
Our Only Hope
The good news is this, after delivering His stern warnings to these most wayward churches, Jesus went on to offer them hope – IF they turned from their disobedient ways and once again passionately followed Him. To Sardis:
You have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never erase his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels… – Rev. 3:4-5
And, to Laodicea:
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will go in and eat with him, and he with me.
To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. – Rev. 3:18-22
Jesus’ main message in these and other passages aimed at the church is Repent and be Overcomers! To repent is to change one’s mind and the intent of one’s heart – to intentionally turn away from sin and turn to God. It means going from a mindset of constantly wanting to sin, to not wanting to sin. Genuine repentance also involves having an attitude of deep remorse and grief over one’s actions in recognition that we have sinned against the Lord and personally violated His trust. In 2 Corinthians 7:10, the apostle Paul put it this way, “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret.”
The Lord does not want us to be weighed down in sin – entangled, enslaved, and held down by the devil, the father of lies. Jesus came to set us free. His desire is for His followers to be victorious overcomers. This doesn’t mean we’ll never stumble, it means that we will live in a steady mindset of obedience to God, with our foremost desire in life being to love and honor Him. It means that we will pursue a close relationship and walk with Him, understanding who He is and what He has done for us.
If we in the church grasped the meaning of true repentance and followed suit, once again earnestly seeking after God, I believe He would supernaturally intervene – not only in our individual lives but in the affairs of our nation, just as He did with the Israelites long ago.
The Lord offered this hope to His people:
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land…for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him. – 2 Chronicles 7:14; 30:9b
God’s offer of forgiveness and restoration applies to us today. Dear One, please heed His call without further delay. Repent and draw near to Christ while there is still time!
If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, please consider the following words of Paul:
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks [Gentiles] that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus…I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. – Acts 20:21; Romans 1:16
Peter, speaking in Jerusalem, affirmed this same message, proclaiming, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
And Jesus, summarizing His purpose on earth, stated:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. – John 3:16-19
God loves you more than you can imagine. He sent His Son to pay the penalty for your sins so that you would not be condemned to hell but instead would have eternal life – IF you repent and believe in Jesus as your Savior. Our Creator longs for you to be in His presence and have fellowship with Him forever. But, it is up to you. You must decide. I urge you, right now, to surrender your life to Jesus and devote the rest of your time on this earth to serve and worship Him in obedience to His call.
Using your own words, ask the Lord to take control of your life. If you are uncertain how to pray, remember that you are simply talking to God. You may choose to pray something like this:
Lord God, I believe that you sent your son Jesus to pay the penalty for my sins. I accept your free gift of eternal life that Jesus purchased on my behalf through His death and resurrection. I renounce my sins and, with your help, am leaving my old ways behind. I want to follow You with all my heart. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Take my life and use it for Your glory – I am all yours.
If you have just surrendered your heart to Christ, you have become part of His spiritual kingdom. Now that you are His child, be devoted in your relationship with Him. Spend time with Him by reading His Word (the Bible) and talking to Him daily. As you grow in His grace, He will direct you and open doors showing you how best to serve Him. With Jesus at the helm, your life and eternity are secure in His care. No situation or power of the enemy will be able to separate you from the love of Christ! With God’s ever-present Spirit and help, you will be able to face the uncertain times and challenges ahead and be victorious. (Romans 8:37-39)
Now go, spread the good news and tell others about your decision to follow Christ. Celebrate your new life in Him and the fact that your sins are forgiven. You’ve been made a new person (born again). You’ve been given a fresh start. Your slate has been wiped clean. Be grateful and rejoice!
If enough people cry out to the Lord in humility and embrace His call to obedience, He might intervene and give us more time. May repentance and restoration become a reality in America and wherever His Gospel is proclaimed!! ■
